Metamorphosis
second book in the Immortal Archives
Change is not always a good thing...

Some survived the battle – but not without a price. As one heart starts up again, another dies down. The pure vampires learn their immortality isn't as strong as they'd thought – the status of their hearts determines their vulnerability. And when the truth gets out, a betrayal by one of their own will cost more lives.

What can I say? I went under a series of emotional highs and lows the afternoon I read Metamorphosis. Trust me, all of them feelings were in reaction to how good the book was and how it really engaged me to be emotionally involved with the characters.

While Ordained started in the middle of the story and was more jam-packed with action and kicking butts, Metamorphosis followed a more sedate pace, focusing more on the lives of the characters after the big battle in Ordained - how they were dealing with the transition, changes in their lives (and I mean BIG changes i.e. accidentally/necessary transformation into a vampire; a visit from the stork; meeting one's evil father after all these years, etc.), and also the relationship changes that always come with life changes.

I was also quite surprised to find a much more human Abby. What I mean is that, I found the Abby in Ordained as more detached than the Abby here in Metamorphosis. She seemed more open, more closer to the people around her, not just Noel, her husband. The strong and deadly hunter was still there but there were times, a lot of them, when I saw her more humorous and fun side.

There was one point (and I mean some chapters) that I was literally rolling around on the bed with my ears ringing with anger because of a, seemingly, betrayal of Abby's most beloved. I was in disbelief since I thought their relationship was solid and nothing could ever destroy that. I confess I went and read one page in the last part of the book to reassure myself. What I read made me go back to where I stopped and flew through the scenes to have the desired outcome. I got it and I also learned a lesson. Utmost trust and love, in any relationship.

Metamorphosis is a great follow-up to Ordained. Although there was less vampire/demon killing, it's no less fun, interesting and awesomesauce.
